The Longest Ship Ever Built – The Legend of Seawise Giant

At Alfa Marine Solutions, we are fascinated by the engineering limits of the maritime world. Today, we kick off our “Maritime Giants” series by looking back at a record that still stands today.

The Record Holder The title for the longest ship ever constructed belongs to the supertanker Seawise Giant (also known as Happy Giant, Jahre Viking, and Knock Nevis).

  • Length: A staggering 458.45 meters (1,504 feet). That’s longer than the Empire State Building is tall!
  • Status: It was scrapped in 2010. No current vessel matches this incredible length. Its size was so extreme that it couldn’t navigate the English Channel, the Suez Canal, or the Panama Canal when fully loaded.

The Engineering Perspective A vessel this size required massive propulsion systems to move its 564,763 DWT. The maintenance of such gargantuan engines is a massive undertaking. Supplying reliable parts for these types of marine power plants is where our expertise truly shines.

Looking for parts for your “giant”? Whether you manage a supertanker or a smaller vessel, we provide the spare parts you need to stay on course.
